Holst at the Barnes Music Festival

2013 is the centenary of composer Gustav Holst living in Barnes from 1908 to 1913 and plans are in hand to celebrate with the inaugural Barnes Music Festival, a weeklong series of musical events. Within the theme of Holst and the English tradition events include orchestral pieces, choral works, film and jazz performances, including world premieres of new works, featuring internationally known artists and local groups.

Barnes Concert Band will be performing Holst’s seminal First Suite and other works in a joint concert with the John Colet Singers.

Barnes Concert Band’s second young soloists competition

This is the second year that BCB has organised a young soloists’ competition, auditioning musicians from the surrounding boroughs and choosing a select number to perform in concert with the band.

This year we are thrilled to welcome Tom Bithell and Nina Pryce to perform with us.
